Benin Salt Dough Tiles

May 18, 2017

Today, in class Invincible we made salt dough! We all loved it as salt dough is so easy to make and some of us had never made it before! We used salt dough to create tiles, following our sketchbook designs, to show important animals to the early civilisation of Benin (West Africa).

Benin is our history topic this term. The animals on the tiles included eagles, crocodiles, leopards and mud fish as they were linked to Benin beliefs. We had a lot of fun and produced  some excellent artwork. Feeling inspired, we are keen to try make salt dough at home too and construct our own models, jewellery and imaginative creations!
