Established in 1875, The Stoke Fleming Horticultural & Sports Society held its Exhibition and Sports Show at the end of August. This year, there were 187 exhibitor classes and 27 different awards. Classes included the traditional floral arrangements, vegetables, fruits and flowers but also a beach hut made from recyclables; a hand-made item including pine cones and a mobile on a coastal theme in the Special Division.
The Show was a wonderful afternoon of entertainment, including exhibits in the Village Hall and Marquee. There was entertainment from The James Harris Jazz Band, Clive Pig the Storyteller and South Hams Primary Schools Ukulele Band. Many pupils from Stoke Fleming school entered the various categories with some winners too!
Very kindly the Society have decided this year to donate £150 to the school. This morning they met with the school council who as representatives of the school will discuss and decide how to invest the money. There were many questions the children asked about the society and the kind donation, such as: How did the society start? Why did you choose the school for the donation?
As a school we are very thankful for the kind donation and the school council will be reporting back soon on the plans for the money.
